How to make a delicious strawberry gin cocktail

Summer is the perfect time to try out some refreshing and fruity gin cocktails. One such drink that stands out is the strawberry gin cocktail. With the addition of fresh mint leaves, this delightful drink is a perfect blend of gin and fresh strawberries, creating a fruity gin cocktail that is hard to resist.

Is it easy to make a perfect strawberry gin cocktail?

It is! The recipe for this refreshing drink consists of easily obtainable ingredients. And instructions are straightforward. Other than your cocktail cabinet with a good dry gin and triple sec, you only need some fresh strawberries, fresh mint leaves and juicy limes.

A half lime, fresh mint leaves and some strawberries on a marble background.

What is the difference between dry gin and regular gin?

The Flaviar Times’ page here explains gin as an alcoholic beverage obtained by distillation from a base of grain (wheat or barley). In a further procedure, botanicals along with water are added until the desired flavours are met. Regular gins are often sweetened by sugar or syrup after distillation. The main difference of dry gin is that they’re not sweetened, so they taste less syrupy and more herbal. So they have a dry flavour profile. There are also legal requirements for a gin to be classified as “dry”.

The reason I used dry gin on this recipe is probably more obvious now, I wanted to taste the fruity flavour coming from the fresh ingredients themselves, not from the gin.

Make your own simple syrup

One of the ingredients of this delicious strawberry gin cocktail is a simple syrup which you can make at home easily. Check out my recipe here and adjust your measurements as required. You can always buy your syrup, too like this simple syrup on Amazon. But there is one thing to keep in mind is if you prepare your syrup right before starting your cocktail. You should cool it at least to room temperature, if not to fridge temperature.

Prepare your ingredients first

I like to prepare all my ingredients to put into the shaker before I start mixing them. This way, I don’t forget anything and have to rush some parts or have to leave some ingredients exposed to processes longer than ideal. For example, if I don’t have my mint leaves washed and pat dry before adding them into the shaker, I might need to rush and not dry them properly so they will go into the cocktail with additional water. I know that I sound quite picky but if Im not so detail oriented, I will be compromising my recipes.

Another preparation you would like to make is washing your strawberries well, removing the stems and cutting them into quarters.

Optionally, you can twist a lime peel over the glass before you serve. This will enhance the citrus flavour.
